Saturday Snapshot – February 25

To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky below. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don’t post random photos that you find online.

Last weekend we went to the beach with my in-laws. It was a beautiful day for February in Oregon, but I still thought it was very cold and spent the whole time bundled up in my wool coat. Once again I forgot my camera so these were taken with my husband’s phone.

Driftwood on the beach.

The boys digging in the sand.

Our dog looking out at the ocean.

Those are terrific! I am always impressed at the quality of the pictures you can take with a cellphone these days.

  2. Looks like a great day at the beach! Book Savvy Babe

  3. Louise says:

Boys always love digging don’t they? Whatever the weather. Looks like your dog had a great day too.

  4. Leslie says:

Brrrrr. I need to be nearer to the equator to go to the beach in the winter. I don’t blame you for wearing a wool coat. I bet the boys had a blast though!

  6. That’s just the sort of beach I like – beautiful blue sky, driftwood and children enjoying life.

  7. Cath says:

Beaches are always more interesting in the winter I feel. That piece of driftwood is massive!

    • Alyce says:

Most beaches that I’ve been to in Oregon have driftwood that is basically tree logs (and smaller driftwood too of course). If they’re far up the beach they make great places to sit and play. When they are closer to the water they are deadly dangerous because a wave can run them into you if you’re not looking.

  8. trish says:

It looks like you had the beach all to yourself! What a fun way to spend an afternoon :)

  9. Sandy says:

It is beautiful…but it looks cold! I know that even down here when it is in the 80′s, the beach can be cold with that wet breeze.

  10. I love these Alyce. The boys and dog look like they are enjoying themselves.

  11. Today’s phones take great photos! I probably would have been freezing too, but it looks like the boys were having fun.

  12. Eugenia says:

I was thinking of posting beach pix but I wouldn’t want to blow Alyce out of the water. lol! Pun intended!

The quality of cellphone pix has really come a long way very quickly, though. Love the one with the dog.

  13. Great shots! My phone doesn’t take good ones…or probably it’s that I don’t know how…lol

Love the beach, and the driftwood looks very artistic. The kids and the dog are thoroughly enjoying themselves….

  14. Whole beach to yourselves? Looks like the boys are finding interesting things.

  15. Irish says:

Looks like a fun day at the beach. Your husbands phone takes some good pictures. If you hadn’t mentioned it I never would have thought it was a camera phone.

  16. Great shots! I love the beach any time of year.

  17. Paulita says:

That looks like fun. I love the dog footprints in the sand, and he doesn’t seem to mind the cold at all. Of course, neither do the kids! Here’s Mine

  18. kaye says:

Wow, that is one big hunk of driftwood – looks like a whole tree! Great shots!

    • Alyce says:

Yep, it pretty much was a whole tree! I’ve never given it much thought, having lived here my whole life, but we do have a lot of large driftwood (logs and stumps, etc.).

  19. Wonderful shots! Loved those…

  20. Nise' says:

I love the beach no matter the weather. Looks like fun! At least you are able to bring your dog with you. There are no dogs allowed on our beach.

  21. Vicki says:

Love the pictures! The beach is my favorite place on earth. I wouldn’t have minded the cold since it’s usually so hot and humid where I live. Although.. it is rather chilly today, but should warm up as the day goes on.

    • Alyce says:

I love the beach too, but it’s amazing how cold it gets at Oregon beaches, even in the summertime. I only have one or two memories of visiting an Oregon beach and not being bundled up.

I just love the beach…thanks for sharing these!

  26. Bonnie says:

How nice to go to the beach in the winter…I would be cold and bundled up also! It looks like the boys and dog had fun!

  30. Debbie says:

I love the Oregon coast. The Oregon coast has my FAVORITE beaches in the whole world. Such character. I haven’t been in so long tho….(sigh) your pictures make me homesick. (We grew up in Washington, but always always went to Lincoln City, Newport–that area for vacations every year. And yes, phones take great pictures nowadays.

  31. Wrighty says:

Beautiful photos, handsome boys, cute dog! I would love to live near the beach, even in the cold weather. This looks like a wonderful place to visit. I hope you all had fun!

  32. Lovely photos! I think beaches are better in the winter, less crowds and more salty air :)
