To start the new year off right I’d like to focus on some positive things. How about a cheer for good health:
- The tendinitis in my arm hasn’t bothered me in a couple of months. I can even play my flute again for long periods of time without pain.
- The optometrist finally found a prescription for contacts that works with my eyes. No more eye strain!
- The muscles in my stomach have almost entirely healed from the blow from the treadmill and I plan to hop on that treadmill this week and start working out again.
And now, some blogging stats from 2011:
- 145 books read
- 54,105 pages read
- Authors: 67% Female 33%Male
- Fiction: 102 books, Nonfiction: 43
I rounded out the reading year by finishing Pure by Julianna Baggott last week. It was such a strange story, but so original and interesting too. I haven’t been drawn out of my comfort zone so much by a dystopian book in a long time. Some of the freakish world pushes past the realms of belief (people being melded with machinery and animals via nanotechnology after apocalyptic bombings), and those elements made me queasy at some points. The plotting was good though and I really want to know what happens in the next book in the series.
Today I’ll reading Immortal Bird by Doron Weber. It’s one of the last review copies I have before I dive into reading books off of my shelves for the next few months.
I don’t have any special plans today except to stay home and relax. What are you doing with this first day of the new year?

Happy New Year!
Good to see you back again after yesterday’s blip.

Wow, 145? That’s great!
I always read lots more Female than Male.
I am also hoping to relax today and ring in 2012 quietly. I do have a review to post, which feels like a good way to start off. Happy New Year!
Think I will spend the day visiting Saturday Snapshots now that I can get on your blog again.
Glad to hear about all your health progress! I hope it lasts all year! :–)
Happy New Year to you! We’re not doing anything special today.
Glad to hear you’re healing up! Pure sounds intriguing – one for the to-read list, I think.
We’ll go to church this morning (if I can drag the kids out of bed!) and then I see a nap in my afternoon plans, as we stayed up to ring in the New Year. Reading-wise, I have a couple of holdovers from 2011: That Distant Land by Wendell Berry and Tipperary by Frank Delaney.
Happy New Year!
Congratulations on your great reading year in 2011…If I ever manage to read 145 books in one year, I’ll take out a full page ad on the front page of the Post Gazettte, lol!
After I get back from church & lunch, I plan a quiet day at home too. I’ll probably watch some racing, do some reading, and spend some more time on the computer.
Hope you have a great New Year!
You had a great year! Glad to see that some of your health issues are working out…and that you’re ready to take on the New Year!
Great idea to show how many authors were female and how many were male. I can tell without looking that I read mostly female authors, but I do have some favorites that are male.
Here’s MY SUNDAY SALON POST and
MY WEBSITE
Happy New Year to you too. Here’s to a relaxing and stress free day.
I will second your cheer for good health. I’ve decided that a mile or two walk a day while listening to an audiobook is my exercise plan for the new year.
My husband and I are working on a hearty meal for the first of this new year. Hearty and healthy. And I’m reading a wonderful book for my first book of the year: Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life by Karen Armstrong.
Here are my Reading Resolutions for 2012.
Happy New Year to you and your family! I hope 2012 is good to you all! Congrats on 145 books! That is awesome!
First, glad to hear you’re doing better…and I like your goal of reading more of your own books this year.
Second, as for today, I’m going to read some Sunday Salon posts, wrap-up posts for 2011 and resolution posts for 2011. Beyond that, I’m not sure…maybe start reading The Complete Sherlock Holmes, Vol. II. We’ll see how the day goes.
I am hanging out at home and reading
Happy New Year to you too! I also have tendonitis, but in an elbow and thumb. It stinks when it acts up. If I feel it starting to act up, I try to not use them and sometimes that staves off an attack. Congrats on your high book numbers, I must be a slow reader, I only managed 85. I am hoping to finish up Faye Kellermans Hangman today, after I take a walk, it is a balmy 50 out there today!
Alyce, you had a great reading year in 2011. Hope 2012 is a wonderful year for you.
Happy New Year Alyce! You have some impressive reading totals! A quiet day hear before a snowstorm hits our area. Reading and game time:)
Happy new year! I’m working on a deadline
. But I’m looking forward to being less busy next week!
You have had a good year! I’m also glad that you are on the mend. Here is to another great year ahead of us!
Happy New Year! Here’s to another great year of reading. Glad to hear you’re feeling better as well.
You have great stats-my numbers were so pathetic that I didn’t really want to dwell on them too much. I hope to get my reading mojo back this year. Enjoy your new found health and have a great 2012!
*smiles*
I goofed off, today. After being internet-free for nearly 10 days, the temptation of the internet was too much for me. Tomorrow, back to work on the do-list. I liked being productive!!!
Your numbers were way better than mine. Wish you the best in the new year.
So glad you are feeling better! I hope you enjoyed a relaxing January 1!
I’m so glad you are healed from the Treadmill Attack of ’11. : )
