More photos from my husband’s trip to Bristol, UK.

The city library in Bristol.

Another shot of the library on the right.

I especially like the curving elements in this second shot, with the cobblestone road echoing the curves of the arches.

  1. Your pictures are reminding me that I really need to start planning for another overseas trip soon. The history just seems to bounce right off with every cobblestone and every beautiful statue and architecture. And these pictures are just incredible; I can only imagine what it would be like to study and read at this library!

    Hi Alyce,

Even though I shall not be taking part in this week’s meme, I just felt compelled to comment on your husband’s great photos this week.

I live a short distance from the City of Bristol and I have never looked so closely at this amazing bulding, as I did this morning in his great shots.

It never fails to surprise me, at just how much of what is on our own doorstep, we take for granted.

Thank you so much for sharing and for opening my eyes to what is around me. Have a great weekend.

  3. This is my first time joining in this meme! My friend Lisa from Alive on the Shelves has participated a lot, and I finally have some pictures that I want to share! Thank you so much for hosting this meme! I am also a new blog follower! Book Savvy Babe

  4. Lisa says:

I always end up taking pictures of the library when I travel! It looks lovely.

  5. Cipriano says:

How is it so that so many buildings in England can look like they’ve been there for a thousand years and yet they retain more beauty than anything built since that time? It’s remarkable. I want to go there and see it all.
To think that these particular buildings are full of books? Ahhh, makes them even MORE beautiful.

  6. Leslie says:

What a beautiful building. I can only imagine how many great scholars studied in that library.

  7. trish says:

That old English architecture is just stunning!

  8. Sandy says:

I love European architecture. My only frustration is that often I can’t accurately capture the true beauty of the thing, but you certainly have here. Very nice!

  9. Kay says:

What an impressive library! Love the arches and the whole look of the place. Plus, I love the bright red mailbox – had to click to make sure that’s what it was! LOL

  10. I always look out for libraries (and bookshops) when I visit places. Your husband took some good shots – it’s not always easy is it?

  11. I love these imposing buildings. They remind me of how much I want to see these sights in person! Thanks for sharing.

  12. When I see buildings like that I always wonder about all the people who’ve been there before me. I wonder what time of the day your husband took that shot – it looks so deserted.

  13. I am such an Anglophile! I hope to travel to England *sigh* some day. The cobblestone road is so quaint and I love the wonderful library windows.

  14. Paulita says:

I love libraries. This one is gorgeous. Our books should be held in beautiful temples like this. Here’s Mine

  15. Debbie says:

It’s so beautiful. I hope to see it someday.

  16. irene says:

Great shots of some wonderful architecture. And no people!

  20. Nise' says:

Beautiful. Was he there early in the morning? No one seems to be around. I search out the libraries in places I visit.

  21. Amy says:

This library is beautiful. I don’t think I would expect it to be a library if I saw photos or walked by it not knowing it was a library. I wonder if it has beautiful architectual details inside…did your husband go into the library?

  22. Marie says:

Love the architecture! I, too, love the curves.

  23. I live in the relatively new part of the United States, the Pacific NW, and we don’t have wonderful old buildings like this one in your photos. That is why I love to travel to places to see the old treasures. Thanks for sharing.

  24. Cat says:

I love seeing pics of England – reminds me of our trip in 2001.

  25. Libraries just make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside :) I think I could probably camp out in one and feel very very safe surrounded by all the books…yes, I’m a goober :)

  26. Vicki says:

Looks very regal! I love architecture, and this building is awesome!

Enduring beauty in architecture and history. Thank you.

  29. Kim says:

Beautiful! I am constantly amazed at the age of so many sites in across Europe (and Britain) It makes our historical sites look like a newborn!

Wow, that’s one huge and gorgeous library, makes our little county library look like a cubicle!

  32. Jenners says:

If I went to a library that looked like this, I’d have to check out a classic book!

  33. Another city I have yet to visit and I live in England.

  34. Wrighty says:

Such beautiful architecture! I’m sure the inside of the building was amazing as well. :)
