Mailbox Monday – January 16

Mailbox Monday is on tour here at my blog for the month of January. To find out more about the history of Mailbox Monday and a list of future hosts visit the Mailbox Monday site.

Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

Please leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky below.

***Some of you may know that I’ve had issues lately with the host server where my blog resides. We’ll be changing servers on Tuesday, so I’m just crossing my fingers that there aren’t any issues during this meme. If for some reason the site is down please check back in a couple of hours. The trend lately has been for it to be down for about an hour around 7:00 a.m. Pacific time. I apologize for this inconvenience, but we are moving as swiftly as we can to be rid of our current provider.***

For the first time since I started participating in Mailbox Monday I have not received or purchased any new books for two weeks in a row.

What new books arrived in your house last week?

I too had an empty mailbox. Maybe give me a chance to finish some of this overflowing pile heh. Have a good reading week.

  2. That means you’re keeping to your commitment of reading more from your own bookshelf.

  3. Yvonne says:

    Hi Alyce,
With all the issues gong on with your service providers, perhaps another book free week isn’t such a bad thing. At least you can be making some small inroad into clearing your existing shelves.
Good luck for Tuesday, every time we have tried to change service providers, it has been a nightmare, but that may just be a British problem!
Enjoy your week anyway and thanks for still taking the trouble to host.

Slow weeks are good. I’m trying to keep it down to one or two new books a week, although last week a couple extra ones showed up.

Just another week to catch up! Always a good thing. From the looks of yesterday’s post, you probably have other things to do today. Enjoy the snow!

  7. Mary says:

Wishing you good luck with the server change!

  8. My “mailbox” is downloads…at least they won’t clog my overflowing shelves! lol

  9. You’re going to be caught up with your TBR pile before you know it!

  10. Anna says:

I’m sure the quiet weeks have given you time to catch up on your reading!

  11. Kim V says:

I’ve gottten to the point where I like empty mailbox weeks.
PS Loved the snowshots — hope you had fun!

  12. Like Kim V., I do enjoy a bout of no new books coming in, because it helps me start making a dent in the books that are already here! (good luck with the server change – I used to design and sub-host websites, and I know what a pain it is – we actually LOST some sites once, and the backup tape was FOUR weeks old, which meant that all of the work in between was lost – I had to re-do all of the work for all of the sites – my fault, really, as I shouldn’t have relied on them to back up our sites [even though they said they backed up every night])

  13. Boo, no books! Thanks for hosting. Hopefully there will be new books this week.

  15. Ruby says:

I got the book Forgotten Bookmarks by Michael Popek as a surprise gift from my Aunt Arline this week. Michael owns a used and rare book shop and wrote the book about all wonderful surprises he has found in books (frequently 100 year old books) he acquires. He has a website at http://www.forgottenbookmarks.com/ and a facebook page (with free giveaways!) at http://www.facebook.com/ForgottenBookmarks. Check them out – it is really fun! He has found: hairnet, valentines, postcards, bookmarks, recipes, notes, ribbons, etc. etc. I was particularly psyched to get the book as his shop is 30 minutes from where I grew up and many of the materials come from the northern Catskill Mountain area around my town and the small city (Oneonta, NY) where his shop is. It’s a great book and a really enjoyable read. So, what’s the coolest thing you’ve found in a book? Happy reading, Ruby

  16. Edgar says:

Almost all my books I’m reading and at my bedside are from the library.

  17. that is pretty darn impressive! my problem is i have so many stacks of books to read and then i want to read something i don’t have so i end up buying it when i should really be catching up on the tbr stacks! great self-control you are exhibiting!
and btw, thank you for letting me know about my twitter account – that’s the 2nd time its happened – so frustrating!

  18. Jenners says:

I think that hosting Mailbox Monday has cursed you into not getting any books in your mailbox! Quick … give it up!

  19. An empty mailbox isn’t such a bad thing, but there still is that little pang of loss when there is nothing there. ;)

  20. So sorry!!
    What crazy flooding!!!!
