Saturday Snapshot – December 3

To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky below. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don’t post random photos that you find online.

The only way these two will sit together is with a curtain in between.

My son had a concert tonight (Friday night), and that’s why this post went up a little later than usual. I wanted to post some photos of the concert here, but I took them with my new video camera and of course I can’t figure out how to access them with this computer. So those will probably have to wait until next week.

It was quite the eventful concert, with a false fire alarm forcing an evacuation, and a group of young violinists who played and played and played – very basic music, the same notes over and over – for forty five minutes before we called it quits and left. They could still be playing for all I know. Every other group had about 15-20 minutes of material, so it seemed strange to me that this group took the stage for what seemed like forever (even if they were sweet little kids).

That would be way too much beginner violin for me too.
Cute kitties. The one on the right looks he/she isn’t going to budge any time soon.

  3. Paulita says:

I always love the cat photos. And thanks for taking me back to those days of my sons and their violin concerts, although they always played more than one note and played only one song each before they finished! Here’s Mt Saturday Snapshot

    • Alyce says:

Well I have to admit they did play more than one note. They would play one note about 20 times and then play another note 20 times (and it fit with the background music), but boy was it long.

  4. Hi Alyce, you can see who the boss is. I may just join in one week now that I have set up a new blog just for my photography!

  5. trish says:

So I take those kitties don’t get along then? They look comfortable but not quiet relaxed.

    • Alyce says:

Nope they don’t get along at all. Midnight (the black kitty) is adopted and she is spooked easily, even by Tiger. At least now when they fight she doesn’t use her claws on Tiger like she did the first few months.

  6. Cats are so funny! You did well to listen to 45 minutes of violin beginners.

  7. Ha! You know I love those kitty pictures!

  8. Staci says:

That is too funny! Do they play together at all?

    • Alyce says:

They are fighting constantly, but at least in the past year it has turned more into playful fighting and wrestling (blood hasn’t been drawn in quite a while). Nothing ticks Midnight off more though than Tiger trying to groom her. You just know a throw down is coming when that happens.

  9. Our girls played violin. Was it a Suzuki school group going through all the rhythms for the first song in the book?
Cats look like they’re playing hide and seek.

    • Alyce says:

I have no idea about the violin group. The teacher didn’t make any announcements or anything, it was just one relentless song after another. They must have been up to about 50 songs by the time we left. Every time I thought, “Surely this is the last one!” And then another one would start.

  10. Too funny! It’s like they refuse to look at each other.

  11. kaye says:

Hey, they just like their own space! Nothing wrong with that. When our younger daughter first started playing the violin and practiced every night around the same time, that’s when TBG decided to take a long shower. He said it drowned out the “squawking”. I don’t think I could take 45 minutes of beginners either.

    • Alyce says:

It wouldn’t have been so bad had we known what to expect, but there weren’t any announcements and no program. And they played song after song with only a few seconds pause in between.

  12. Lengthy performances can quickly turn tedious…and painful!

Love the cats…they are so totally showing their “feelings” for one another. Thanks for sharing.

    • Alyce says:

It was the first time in a very long time that I’ve felt trapped in a performance. I was trying to be a good role model for the kids, but it really became ridiculous after a while.

  13. What a riot! Sounds a bit like the music still playing as the Titanic was sinking! LOL

    • Alyce says:

I felt bad for the little kids that the audience was leaving, but my goodness you just had to be there to know how long and torturous the whole thing had become.

  14. That is too funny; you know I always love cat photos.

We have (2) boys that do not get along. Our orange and white one actually likes the black one, but the black one is so jealous when the other gets attention, that he’ll take it out on him afterward. The girl cat is no problem. She likes the others and they like her….weird.

    • Alyce says:

Our cats take practically anything out on each other, but it is fun to anticipate. Like if one of the kids pets a cat too hard or picks it up when it wants to be left alone, we know there’s going to be a cat wrestling match soon after.

  16. Oh you bring back the memories of long sports banquets when the boys were in school…. I once wondered if I could take out the speaker by clocking then with the salt shaker on the table just to put an end to the program that kept on going and going and going…. another time I considered stabbing a long winded talker with my plastic fork….
perhaps it is a good thing those days are over for me ;)

  17. Our older daughters played piano and at least twice a year we attended piano concerts similar to the violin concert you described ;)
Now that it’s gotten cooler at night, our 3 cats will sleep in a big pile right on our bed…they all come in at different times during the night but I always wake up to a kitty cat lump right across my legs :) :) I love it!

    • Alyce says:

My kids have been in recitals, but honestly I’ve never been to something so painfully long. I think had there been a program we might have been able to mentally prepare – steeling ourselves for the long haul.

  18. Ha! Cats are so funny and particular, but man, they are cool. And oh my goodness, that is a long time for one group to play at a concert. 45 minutes?! I would have left also. Poor little kids, who made them play that long!

  19. 45 minutes of beginner violin is waaaayyyy tooo long! I can relate to your cats! Our two are like that. They will be somewhat close but can never touch. If one moves the other growls and carries on. You’d think after 11 years they would get along.

  20. Loving your Saturday snapshot. I can’t help comparing the caterwauling of these cats with the caterwauling of these young violinists.

  21. Edgar says:

Are the cats shy or just stubborn?
Sometimes I like to be with someone but with a tiny distance between.

    • Alyce says:

Oh they’re just stubborn. The black one is adopted and has some fear issues around everyone. She’s very snuggly with us, but freaks out at loud noises or when people move too quickly. Oddly enough she loves the boys but is terrified of my husband (who is normally the one all cats love) and the dog (who is also terrified of her). I’m thinking she must have had some bad experiences with men before. Anyway, her timidity seems to carry over to trusting our other cat too, so they fight a lot.

  23. Stephen says:

Surely they’re aware of each other, even through the curtain? Maybe it gives the just enough distance to tolerate the other’s proximity..

  24. Kim says:

Your picture made me laugh! We had a set of brother cats (found abandoned when they were only about 5 weeks old, one has since died), and they would never sleep together once they weren’t kittens anymore. They would groom each other though! Cats are just plain weird! :)
    *smiles*

  25. Amy says:

This is an adorable photo! Cats are so quirky & funny!
Your son’s concert sounds very nice even though the violinists didn’t seem to know when to stop! At least they were last or close to it so you could leave after you had your fill! I laughed when you said they could still be playing. Maybe their teacher decided to take a break!

  26. Jill says:

Kids events are tough, you want everyone to have a chance but too much of a chance and it takes forever. I am starting to feel that way about dance recitals. The littlest dancers are so cute, but each group comes out and does, or in most cases doesn’t do, the same types of moves. Sometimes less is definitely more!

  27. irene says:

I remember quite well the times my husband and I would attend my nieces concerts and I swear the organizers would lock us in so we’d stay for the whole thing. How ever did you manage to leave. Love your kitties.

  28. Eva says:

    Funny cats :-)
That concert really does sound eventful. I heard beginners today too, but a school band and they only played three really short songs before letting the older kids take the stage :-)

  29. Jenners says:

Sounds like you should have used the fire alarm to escape before the endless violin recital!

  30. kay says:

Your cats are so cute! I guess the curtain gives them a bit of intimacy :p

  31. LOL So cute! I’m relieved that mine will snuggle with each other, since our last two hated each other so much that we had a couple injuries — one of which became life-threatening because the claws apparently had a little e-coli from scratching in the litterbox. I swore I’d get siblings, this time, but it worked out. Sorry yours don’t like each other! They’re so pretty!

  32. The cats are caring for each other i can’t believe because most of the cats are fighting always like mine…
    So cute…
