This time I’m featuring photos of the birds we saw in Hawaii. Once again I don’t know the names of them, so feel free to make suggestions if you think you know what they are.

I think this is some sort of cardinal. I tried to get closer to take another photo but he flew away. This was near the bus stop across from the 'Iolani Palace.

This guy wouldn't stay still so the picture is a little blurry. He landed right behind me while we were standing outside our hotel.

I love the one of the cardinal – gorgeous red! I’m never good with capturing photos of birds, I think I’m a bit jumpy.
I need a longer lens!
The red head bird is amazing, isn’t it? I enjoyed seeing each of them.

Such beautiful birds, but I can’t identify any of them. My Saturday snapshot is of the bird variety too, but looks a bit ghostly, I think.
These are so beautiful.
I don’t think I have ever seen photos of these birds in books or on the internet.
thanks for sharing

Gorgeous photos. I especially like the yellow guy.
The death defying birds that play chicken with traffic are mynahs. We have them here in NZ too where they do the same thing.
Great pics.
Beautiful birds in Hawaii. I’m not good identifying them though. The one with the red head is a Red-Crested Cardinal. He’s gorgeous. I think the ones in the second photo are Mynas. Not sure what the yellow one is but it’s very pretty.

I’ve no idea what kinds of birds they are, but some of them are really beautiful. My resolve to someday go to Hawaii get strenghtened by the week theese days.
I’m no good at capturing birds. I do however know about someone who is. Look at this photo , it’s stunning.
What a varied selection of lovely birds.
Your Hawaii pictures are almost too amazing to be true!
Very cool pics!
I love the bird with the red plume!
The red crested cardinal is so handsome
They are all so sweet! Thanks for sharing….
That first photo was a pretty tricky one to spot with him hiding in the foliage. I love that you say the birds played chicken with cars. Did that mean you saw a number of them as roadkill or did they always win?
They always won as far as I could tell.
I was going to suggest Leslie look at them, but it looks like you’ve stumped here with a couple of them. They’re gorgeous birds!
Lots of great pictures!
these are some great shots, most of my pics of birds are blanks. Are your boys back to school soon?
Just one more week and then they are back to school!

Alyce – your post…. is for the birds!
(Sorry… just got back from camp… I am a little punchy).
I love the bird pics – that last one cracks me up….”Mr. “on The go!”
These guys are gorgeous! I fell in love with the birds over there. I love that red-headed one.
Great bird shots! Love your blog, and I am now a follower.
Your birds of HI are awesome. If I had to choose, the little yellow one and the one that looks like a cardinal/woodpecker mix are my favorites, but I LOVE them all.
I’m loving all of your Hawaii pics. Makes me feel like I was there. Sorta
I love the red-headed bird, I remember seeing those in Hawai’i and just spending time staring at them!
Aren’t birds just so diverse and interesting and gorgeous? So many times I’ve wished I was one. And to be a Hawaiian one…. hey — BONUS!
My favorite birds are herons and toucans. But I like the smaller birds also — and in that one photo, I think that is a dove variety of bird rather than a pigeon. Believe me, I have MANY pigeons on my balcony to compare this one to, and it looks more like a dove. This is my conclusion.
Cheers!
There are all great shots, Alyce! I have to say that my favorite one is the first one. The one with the yellow bird. It looks wonderful. Oh and the one with the Cardinal, brilliant. Fabulous shots, Alyce. =)
Great photos, Alyce!
The birds are beautiful! I love the little yellow one.
Love that red on the “some sort of cardinal” Beautiful birds!
A bit late, but wanted to participate.
Second last photo is a red-crested cardinal (Brazilian Cardinal).
